Deposition-Pellet Preparation Technique for Powder Samples Measurement Using Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy

Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) is a spectroscopy-based measurement technique that capable of rapid and accurate qualitative, as well quantitative, analysis elemental ingredients either in solid (either for organic or inorganic compounds), liquid, gaseous samples. Unfortunately, this not the case powdered samples, where focused laser beam will disperse powder. This can be overcome by making powder into pellets. But it has an inherent drawback, i.e., minimum amount about 0.2 g to obtain good detectable signal. To cope with unfavorable condition, especially less than 0.1 mg, we proposed sub-target deposition method make pellets reported work. Using method, analyzed was deposited indented hole on pellet substrate KBr following optimum conditions, pellet's pressing pressure 400 kPa, energy 120 mJ, sample's heating temperature 70℃. Microanalyses standard samples PbO, CuO, ZnO have been carried out estimated detection limits 4.7 μg, 4.6 3.9 respectively. So, used analyze small amounts (in microgram range)
